STORY BEHIND THE PHOTO

Two Medicine Lake, Glacier National Park

I arrived at Two Medicine Lake well before sunrise, hiking in while steady winds pushed through the valley at nearly forty to fifty miles an hour. In this part of Glacier National Park, grizzly bears are common, and in the dark your hearing is often your first and only warning. That morning, the wind masked every sound, keeping me alert and on edge as I worked. As the light began to rise, the scene transformed. The clouds raced across the sky and the water moved constantly beneath them, while the rocks, trees, and mountains remained completely still. That contrast is what drew me in. Motion and stillness existing together, chaos passing over permanence. It was a reminder that while circumstances shift and rush past us, there are foundations that do not move. This image is about that tension, early morning uncertainty giving way to quiet clarity, and the steady presence that remains long after the wind passes.

Psalm 5:3
“In the morning, O Lord, you hear my voice; in the morning I lay my requests before you and wait expectantly.”
