Golden Hope — Story Behind the Photograph
Golden Hope was photographed at the base of Pikes Peak in Colorado Springs during a rare convergence of a snowstorm and sunset. As winter weather moved across the mountain, a brief opening in the clouds allowed the last light of day to spill through, bathing the peak in warm gold while fresh snow traced its ridges and slopes. These moments are uncommon in mountain landscape photography, where storms often erase light rather than reveal it.
I was drawn to this scene because the weather itself became part of the composition. The falling snow softened detail and muted contrast, while the low sun introduced warmth and depth, transforming the mountain into something both monumental and intimate. The result is a layered landscape, shaped as much by atmosphere as by geography, where light and weather work together rather than compete.
Golden Hope reflects the quiet power of transition, when clarity appears inside uncertainty and beauty emerges from conditions we normally try to avoid. Standing there as the storm passed through Pikes Peak, the experience felt less like witnessing a spectacle and more like receiving a moment of grace, brief, unrepeatable, and grounded in the natural world.
“I lift up my eyes to the mountains, where does my help come from?
My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth.”
Psalm 121:1–2
Print Process & Availability
Golden Hope is offered exclusively as a dye infused metal photographic panel. The image is permanently infused into architectural grade aluminum, becoming part of the metal itself rather than resting on its surface. When viewed under proper lighting, the panel produces a sense of depth and luminosity that complements the interplay of storm light, snowfall, and mountain form present in the photograph.
This process was selected for its ability to preserve fine detail, tonal separation, and color stability while offering exceptional durability and archival longevity. The metal surface allows the image to respond dynamically to ambient light, enhancing the dimensional quality created by the weather and atmosphere in the scene.
The work is produced as a limited edition of twelve, released sequentially. Each panel is signed and numbered by the artist.
