FALL SNOW FALLING
Fall Snow Falling was made in Grand Teton National Park during a moment that cannot be planned. I was photographing moose at the edge of a small mountain lake when, without warning, a brief snowstorm moved through the valley. Autumn color was still fully present—gold aspens, deep greens—but the snowfall arrived softly, almost hesitantly, veiling the scene rather than overtaking it.
The flakes fell thick enough to be seen, yet light enough to pass gently through the landscape, muting color, softening edges, and adding a dimensional layer that exists only for moments at the threshold between seasons. The snow did not conceal the land; it transformed it—turning foliage into texture, color into tone, and motion into atmosphere.
This photograph is less about snowfall than about timing. It exists because weather, light, and season briefly aligned, offering a scene that could not be revisited or repeated. These are the moments I am drawn to—the ones given, not chased.
“He gives snow like wool;
He scatters the frost like ashes.”
— Psalm 147:16
PRINT PROCESS & AVAILABILITY
This work is a new addition to the Veiled Landscapes collection and is offered exclusively as a dye-infused metal photographic panel. The image is permanently infused into architectural-grade aluminum, becoming part of the metal itself rather than resting on its surface. When properly lit, the panel creates a subtle sense of depth and luminosity that enhances the layered snowfall and delicate color transitions present in the photograph.
Fall Snow Falling is available at 40 × 60 inches and is produced as a limited edition of seven, released sequentially.
