avalanche creek
story behind the photo
Avalanche Creek is a glacier-fed creek located deep inside Glacier National Park, and it is without question one of the most beautiful creeks I have ever seen in my life. Reaching this spot required hiking into the forest, moving away from roads and crowds, and stepping fully into the quiet, living heart of the park. The water here is fed directly by melting glaciers, which gives the creek its impossible color, a deep, luminous blue-green that feels almost unreal. The moss-covered rock walls, the movement of the water, and the density of the surrounding forest come together to create a place that feels wild, ancient, and untouched. Standing there, you are surrounded by sound, rushing water, wind through the trees, and the unmistakable sense that creation itself is speaking.
This photograph is one that truly comes into its own when printed large. My last sale of this image was ninety-six inches wide, and at that scale it feels less like a photograph and more like a window. Printed big, it pulls you into the scene and gives the sense that you could step forward and be standing at the edge of the creek yourself. It is an ideal piece for a large space, where its depth, texture, and color can be fully experienced. There are places in the natural world that stir something deeper than admiration. Avalanche Creek is one of those places. Its beauty is not just visual, it is emotional, and it points beyond itself to the One who created it.
Romans 1:20 (NIV)
“For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities, his eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that people are without excuse.”
